James Anderson overtakes Anil Kumble to become 3rd highest wicket-taker in longest format

  • England’s veteran right-arm pacer James Anderson recently overtook former Indian leg-spinner, Anil Kumble, to become the third-highest wicket-taker in Test cricket.
  • He has 621 scalps in 303 matches, including thirty-five wicket hauls and three ten-wicket hauls. Anderson is 39-year old but still has the zeal to bowl long overs in Test matches and make the ball talk.
  • In the first test match against India at Trent Bridge, James Anderson picked up a four-wicket haul in the first innings. He dismissed the Indian skipper Virat Kohli for a golden duck.
  • The Virat Kohli and James Anderson rivalry on the field goes back to the 2014 India tour of England. Anderson dismissed Virat four times in five Test matches, that series. Since then, the English pacer did not have any success against the Indian skipper. Finally, in the first Test, Anderson got the better of Kohli.
  • The Barmy Army, took to Twitter to praise the veteran English pacer. They posted a morphed image of “68-year-old Anderson celebrating the wicket of Virat Kohli Jr”.
  • The Barmy Army wrote“The year is 2050 and a 68-year-old Jimmy Anderson has taken his 1,500th Test Wicket snicking off Virat Kohli Jr first ball.”
